Austrian history in focus
The Austrian National Library's picture archive is the biggest and most comprehensive national image collection. More than one million photographs are at the centre of the collection covering a wide spectrum of topics ranging from Austrian royalty, celebrity portraits, history and geography to architectural images, features of everyday life to art photography.
More than 200,000 images have been digitized and are available online.

The florilegium of Austrian Emperor Franz I.
The nature loving Austrian Emperor Kaiser Franz I. commissioned artist Matthias Schmutzer (1752-1824) to paint the flowers in his garden. Between 1798 and 1825 he produced 1314 water colours, documenting a great variety of plants in their original size.
