Listeriosis is contracted through contaminated food; convenience 'cook- chill' meals are one potential source. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable; bacteria may cross the placenta to infect the baby, who has no immunity. Amother may only experience mild influenza-like symptoms yet may lose her baby. Others vulnerable include the elderly, cancer patients & those on immunosuppressive drugs.
